Chakalaka cottage pie


Serves 6

oil for frying
1 onion, chopped
500 g beef mince
1 sachet (50 g) tomato paste
1 tin (410 g) chakalaka
with sweetcom
1 cup frozen peas
1 cup water
salt and pepper
3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 tablespoon butter
± 1/2 cup milk

Heat the oil in a pot and fry the onion until soft. Add the mince and fry until browned. Add the tomato paste, chakalaka, peas and a little water. Simmer for a few minutes. Season to taste.

Boil the sweet potatoes in salted water until cooked, then drain and mash with a fork. Season to taste, add the butter and milk to form a smooth mixture. Put the mince in a dish and top with the sweet potato.
